Winter Christmas 2011

Another year is over. And with it, another Christmas. And what a great Christmas it was.

We did in fact survive the plane journey from Brisbane to London with two children in tow, without too many dramas and tantrums. So we had a week to settle in and try to get over the jet lag before Christmas day. It took Alice the whole first week but by Christmas Eve she finally slept all night and now sleeps about 13 hours, waking around 8am when the sun starts coming up.

So Christmas morning Tobin woke at 2.30am to find his stocking filled on the end of his bed. He then ran down the hall to check under the Christmas tree then came to wake us up to tell us that Santa had been. I somehow convinced him to go back to sleep, tucking his stocking in to bed next to him. At a more sensible hour we all woke and went through the kids stockings with them, finding tangerines, chocolate coins, hats & mittens and some small toys. Once the sun was up, along with the remaining house members, we had a nice light brekkie that got us through to our fine home cooked three course Christmas dinner (or lunch, as some would call it. Particularly Tobin who had an argument with Grandad about this). We opened our presents after breakfast and were all a wee bit spoilt. Santa brought Tobin the pirate ship lego that he has been going on about relentlessly for the last six months. I think Santa should have possibly rethought his choice in gift as the lego is for ages 9-16 and Tobin is a mere 4 and a half. Very complicated set of instructions that even my husband found challenging at times (although maybe what was challenging was trying to be patient explaining the process to a 4yo). It did keep them busy for a few days though. He also received a fab jet plane rocket lego thingy along with other fab goodies. Alice received a great cookie monster that eats cookies (that are not actually really edible, no matter how many times you try to eat them, and Alice tried a lot), among other things. Dan & I are received tickets to watch War Horse at the New London Theatre with a night in London. Can’t wait. I’ve heard War Horse is amazing.

My sister-in-law arrived for lunch with her baby, husband and his parents. Their baby Josh is our children’s first cousin, so it was so lovely having the family all together for Christmas. We all indulged in more gifts then a starter of prawns, crab meat, shrimp, smoked salmon and pickled fennel. Lunch comprised of Turkey (or roast quorn log for the non-meat eaters. i.e. me), roast vegetables, brussel sprouts (which Alice now has an addiction for), carrots, three kinds of stuffing, pigs in blankets, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, meat gravy, vegetarian gravy…have I missed anything? And wine. Then the Christmas pudding came out a blazing. To sum it all up, yum! I’m now a roly poly and think I’ll need an extra seat on the plane home.

What a super winter Christmas!
